Is it illegal to call companies requesting information under false pretense?

I'm being advised by my manager to call companies to acquire names and email addresses of management staff for future marketing services. We are being made to call from a blocked number, and act as though we are or were recently customers at these places. Is there anything illegal about this practice?


I'm feeling like it is unethical, but wanted to find out if there were legal implications to this, as well.
