Is it illegal to include false information in a C.V?

Is it illegal to add false information such as previous employment in with the C.V?Is it illegal to include false information in a C.V?
Illegal? No. Stupid? Yes. Your facts can be verified and if you lie to a potential employer it can come back to bite you later. Embellishing is one thing, Being downright untruthful is just wrong. Is it illegal to include false information in a C.V?
It is wrong not against the law. If you get caught doing that you will not get a job and depending on the field that you are the word could spread about you
illegal? no

immoral? yes
Not illegial, but if your found out then your employment could be terminated and then you'd be back to square one looking for a new job with no income coming in.
no, it is not illegal..it is called dishonesty.

think about this, a friend of mine applied for a job abroad. the job is generally for graphics but it requires that the applicant should know how to use the autocad program. he is excellent in graphics, particularly in photoshop and corel draw, but lack that in autocad. still, he manages to put it in his cv and eventually got the job...a few months later, news came that he was fired. to think that he was working abroad, where were he supposed to go? what was he supposed to do now?

so think hard..think really, really hard.

it pays to be honest..at least.
I think it's OK to fabricate a little - but what is the point in adding false information as in interview you'll be asked about it anyway.
Geoffrey Archer did it and he seems to be doing ok.
I don't think there is a specific law with regards to a CV but i'm sure if someone wanted to push it there are laws you could prosecute under...such as fraud or obtaining money by deception.
Not usually illegal but it is unethical and, if you are found out, you will probably be fired.
Your CV is only what you want it to be - the dishonesty/illegal issues will arise later after the Interview; if you have one; and then something comes to light which could be attributed to what you had written or said, at any stage in the process'

I have even had to approach previous employers asking them to give me a testimonial on their ORIGINAL Letterheaded paper ( Just additional proof in this day and age of copiers/printers)
With many job apps, you end up signing a disclaimer saying that all of the facts you have presented are true and factual, and that if they are not, you will be subject to immediate termination if you are hired and this is later found out. It may not be technically illegal, with fines and jailtime, but it is unethical. Best to be honest - lets face it, most people who have lived for a while have a somewhat checkered past in some way, and I think most reasonable people realize that. Best to come clean.

As far as adding things that you didn't do (fictional employers, schools, etc.) it's easy enough for someone to check up on these things to verify them, so why would you even think about doing it?? Again, it may not be illegal, but if later found out - bye bye job....
No but it is grounds for dismissal if they employ you %26amp; then find out.
Today there are number of ref check mechanisms available for companies to find the truth therfore one should avoid sending any false information on the CV.

Most of the companies, I know call the previous employer to find out about the candidate's performance, track record and history.

More than the illegality it's the question of ethics. Also, incase the company hire's you, the chances are high that they come to know sooner or later.

Save yourself from having any bad experience. Stick to truth, sooner or later you will land in your dream job
I think it is and don't forget if you get the job you may have to verify things that you wrote before they gave you it
