Is this correct or did i receive false information on the nursing program?

Ok i wanted to go to a four year university to get my RN degree but the BSN program runs for 5 years! Two years of prerecs and then three years of nursing school. Also we would have to do our own clinical training in the hospital because the only experience they offer you is on dumbies! Does it really take 5 years at a 4 year college?

Thank you!Is this correct or did i receive false information on the nursing program?
Well, if the school admissions reps are telling you 5 years then it will be 5 years - but most schools that offer a BSN program are designed to be completed in 4 years if you attend full time every semester.

As for clinicals, you don't have to do this on your own - your school arranges clinical experiences as part of the program. You're paying them tuition - it's their job to provide these experiences for you.Is this correct or did i receive false information on the nursing program?
That does not surprise me. SOme schools may have a more set 4 year program, but many have so many applicants it makes more sense to force them to get the pre-reqs done so they are only accepting people really ready for the nursing program. It is only one more year, it will be worth it. Associates degree programs are even worse about it, people think its only 2 years but it takes 3-4 because of competition and prerequisites.

I think you misunderstood them about the clinicals. They must have something in place to help you get the clinicals. YOu will not have to walk into a hospital and ask for someone to set up a clinical training position for you. ALL programs involve clinicals, there is no way to become a nurse without getting some training in a real work situation.

Each program will be different, we can help you with general information but it is best to ask someone from the particular program about their particular requirements. THey are all different.
Yes it could take five years Nursing is very very intense you have a lot to learn I do think it may be do-able in four but it will be pushing it
