No, it is not illegal to give false information to websites unless you are reporting something to the police of FBI.Is it illegal to give false information to websites trying to sign you up for something?
Only if by giving or not giving you commit an act of fraud.
As in you misrepresent who you are, your finances, your personal info to open a credit card or similar. that can be a crime.
if you gave a BS address to stay off a mailing list or something, no that would not be illegal. Is it illegal to give false information to websites trying to sign you up for something?
Don't try it. In the end, you could be forced to pay for items. The website has your IP address (Internet Provider Address) and may get it brought into court in their defense. This would prove it was you and you may be found guilty. Just ignore those sites.
Only when the purpose of the false information is to fraudulently obtain something of value AND the supplier suffers a tangible loss of that value due to the fraud.
don't give them the time of day and yes and no you can used a assumed name if you want but be careful. and don't give your info to any thing that you don't trust 99% inter net is a scam...
It is illegal if the policy you agree to when joining clearly states that your details must be legitimate.
I believe EBay is one of those sites.
