Can we take legal action against a company that has reported false information to the IRS?

We have been harassing this company for a year now to fix my husbands earnings for 2006. They claimed to the IRS that he made 7500 more than what he actually made. They admit the mistake but won't send the proper paperwork to fix it and we are being tackled by the state and the feds forCan we take legal action against a company that has reported false information to the IRS?
Hello there,

That sounds like a stressful problem. Has the company given you anything in writing that says they made a mistake in the amount of his earnings. If not, you might try asking them for such a letter.

With regard to the kindly folks from the tax departments, You should write them a letter explaining the situation including your attempts to get the company to correct its error and tell them that the company has admitted to you that it made a mistake. If you have received something in writing from the company admitting the mistake, send along a copy (keep the original) of that with your letter to the tax departments. If you have not yet received such a letter from the company, tell the tax departments in your letter that you have requested something in writing from the company.

The letters you have received from the tax departments (IRS and state) should have said an address to which you can send your responses.

I hope this helps you.

Good luck,

Hello again. If you have already tried getting something in writing from the company and they have refused, I suggest you contact an attorney. The attorney have write the company and that may prompt them to take action. Most attorneys charge based on the time they have involved in the matter and the cost may be less than you expect.

Hope you get it worked out,
